The main vehicular artery that runs through Racine County posts a speed limit of 65 miles per hour. But there’s no slowing down the growth of the communities adjacent to Interstate 94.

Residential and commercial developers are zooming forward to take advantage of the highly visible and easily accessible route that keeps the economic lifeblood pumping in the county.

The stretch of interstate that runs from Chicago to Milwaukee is referred to as the "Chiwaukee Corridor.” Racine County is the heart of this regional district which is called a mega-city. The corridor is just one of many appealing points that attracts businesses to Racine.

The well-situated geographical location benefits companies that need to serve customers and be close to suppliers. Racine County offers an ample supply of workers trained for 21st century jobs. Existing, advantageous resources are available for companies’ use. Whether a firm needs guidance on lean manufacturing, intellectual property or any number of concerns, Racine County economic partners have the resources to help. An array of natural, cultural and recreational opportunities also draws people to the area.

Racine County offers an entrepreneurial culture and recognizes the importance of technology and innovation in the growth of existing business and the attraction of new ventures. Throughout the county, ambitious developments and revitalizations are underway. Urban, rural and high-profile settings are available.

Capitalizing on the area’s natural amenities, the GrandView Business Park overlooks the Chiwaukee Corridor just south of Highway 20 in Yorkville.

Mount Pleasant is taking advantage of its highly visible interstate frontage between Highway 11 and Highway 20 and is embarking on a sizable 20-year development of 8,000 acres. The initial mixed-use project is expected to include a business park, a service-center park, and a town center development that would have retail and multifamily components on a 2,300-acre lot.

Mount Pleasant’s plan is progressive and promotes an improved quality of life. The village will add recreational opportunities, including sports fields, on- and off-street bike paths and 200 acres of parks, and a new village hall.

The mixed-use development near the intersection of Highway V and Highway K in Caledonia is unique as it uses the New Urbanism philosophy. Twelve Oaks is rooted in preserving the village’s rural characteristics yet branches into the future with new housing options. The Trillium Commercial Center will surround the Village Green and feature a grocery shop, restaurants and other key retail establishments. Residents will be within a 10-minute walk to the common areas of their neighborhood community.

Waterford is a well-kept secret with a touch of home just 20 minutes west of I-94. Filled with quaint shops and mouth-watering eateries, Waterford residents and guests enjoy family-friendly events throughout the year. Fox River winds its way through the relaxing community, and there are numerous public access points for fishing and boating.

Great housing diversity exists. New single-family homes or condos are as attractive as accessible waterfront properties. The thriving economic environment allows for new and existing business to grow. Space remains in the WesTerra Business Park.

Union Grove is a community on the move. Located where Highway 45 and Highway 11 intersect, its downtown business district is in the process of revitalization. Established, growing companies are relocating to the area and bringing new jobs to a qualified workforce.

Residential developments include the construction of 160 upscale homes in Canopy Hills, near the village’s high school.

A working conceptual plan guides the officials as they answer numerous developers’ knocks for this opportunity. Senior housing, an anchor restaurant and strategically chosen shops are expected to open their doors in downtown Union Grove.

Sturtevant is home to a new Amtrak station, which provides convenient access to riders of the rail. The community is on track for housing, commercial, industrial and retail developments.
