The Downtown Racine Corporation has announced that a Patriotic Celebration and Free Concert will be held at Monument Square on Saturday evening, June 21.

The evening?s activities will begin at 6 p.m. with a Patriotic Celebration.  A flag raising ceremony by the Marine Corps League Color Guard will kick off the festivities followed by a rededication of the Monument Square cannons.  Special guests will include Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln (portrayed by Jessica Michna and Robert Rotgers) along with a number of Civil War re-enactors from Cushings Battery.

The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America will perform from 6:15 ? 8 p.m.  This diverse 45-piece ensemble?s repertoire ranges from symphonic band masterworks to traditional marches, to modern compositions, to pops and jazz.  The band also features talented vocal soloists performing a wide variety of popular, classical and patriotic selections.

The Concert Band plays more than 100 engagements each year.  Each year, band members perform live before hundreds of thousands of people and for millions more on television and radio broadcasts.  They are often called upon to provide musical support for visiting dignitaries and has had the distinction of performing for Pope John Paul II, Presidents George W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, the Queen of the Netherlands and hundreds of other U.S. and foreign leaders.

The roots of the Band of Mid-America reach back to 1942.  Today the band proudly represents Air Mobility Command, whose mission is to uniquely support the Air Force with world class musical products and services that promote and support troop morale, recruiting, community relations and the preservation of our national heritage.  The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America reflects the heritage and pride of our great nation and the United States Air Force.

Immediately following the concert, a short fireworks display will be provided by Pyrotech Limited and Bartolotta Fireworks.

Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs and meet their friends and neighbors in Downtown Racine for a summer evening of entertainment.  Refreshments will be available for sale.
